Newsletters

Safeco moved faster than anyone expected to a new compensation program that focused on company, department and individual performance. The speed can be directly attributed to the quality of the employee communications. It was an amazing shift in the way employees approached their work and made Safeco more profitable in one year than it had been for many previous years.

Safeco Focus on Performance.
Sandy worked as a consultant for 18 months to the Focus on Performance project team. She created and implemented a seven-part employee communication plan that involved communication strategies for competencies and coaching, goals and measurements, compensation and evaluations, performance management, and change management. As part of her assignment, she developed targeted electronic newsletters for various audiences and worked with the Communications staff at Safeco to create messages for all employees. The biggest challenge was working with people from many departments — often with divergent interests — and brokering agreement.
